This project is a collaboration between the Centre for Collaborative Digital Networks from the University of Johannesburg and Bayoom Hub.

One of the founding principles of this project is that data has value. Communities, once empowered, can use data both to drive changes directly, and as a resource that can be used to collaborate with government, local NGOs and global partners to drive change. Data is now widely viewed as a capital resource, but communities rarely participate in its benefits or future value. Our overall approach is to engage the community and youth to demonstrate the value of data in tackling a widely recognized problem. In so doing, the community gains insights on how to be proactive in tackling their issues, youth gain data skills and a network of community data is retained for use as a resource.
